The Year in Review

Words by Jamie Gledhill, Lecturer

Welcome to the first graduating cohort of BSc (Hons) User Experience Design and BSc (Hons) Interaction Design.

This year is an important milestone for the university and marks the first students to graduate with a BSc from NUA. With close links to national and regional industry partners, these courses equip students to develop innovative design solutions to real world problems underpinned by systematic research activity.

We’ve had guest speakers from IBM, BT, Foolproof, Neon Tribe, The User Story as well as many freelance consultants. Students secured summer internships with a range of employers from national telecoms providers to local design agencies.

They engaged with local initiatives such as Step into Tech’s 2 day Tecathon for young people in Norwich, for which they devised a popular design challenge. A major highlight of 2019 was the Broads Authority Digital Interpretation project for which they devised and tested a prototype mobile app which was met with great enthusiasm from stakeholders and users alike.

Students have gone on to find employment in competitive national graduate schemes and as high value freelancers.

For the last three years, User Experience Design and Interaction Design have been taught side-by-side with BSc (Hons) Games Development – do ensure you check out their work too.
