BA (Hons) Textile Design

Woven panel in yellow, purple, and orange, inspired by the structure and form of buildings. Featuring soft colour change gradient.

During my degree, I have developed a passion for weaving, and an awareness of the need to work sustainably. Throughout the entire course, I have used yarns purchased only from suppliers of ex-mill/industry stock, charity shops and donated yarns. I have dyed these yarns to complete my palette and therefore not sacrificed my design aesthetic. Weaving has also enabled me to use other skills such as working with colour and applying attention to detail.

Textured abstract woven design in mainly plum and orange with multicoloured highlights.

I enjoy addressing complicated technical weaving challenges, and through this, I have become a very proficient weaver. This fact can be reflected by two commendations from the Bradford Textile Society in their annual competition, and placements in other local competitions. I weave one-off, artisanal pieces designed to maximise the yarn supplies available at the time and choose only the highest quality yarns to create my unique one-off pieces.

Regular and irregular placed patterns with light soft shading and contrasting bold squares and rectangles.
Woven samples in turquoise, plum and lavender. Shown folded and draped, alongside a collage created in response to personal photography of modern buildings.
Woven fabric with vertical pattern stripes and horizontal colour stripes, in turquoise, lavender, plum and pale blue.
