Annie Wicks

BA (Hons) Animation

Set Design and Art Directed by Annie Wicks showing an striking image of a man sitting between two model estate flat blocks.

I am graduating from BA Animation. My time at university has allowed me to explore different avenues and learn a lot about different creative processes, through this I have found a passion in Art Direction, Set design, Illustration and Photography. To utilise these skills I collaborated with Liam Bloomfield for my Final Major Project where we explored representing lower class communities in a new and exciting way.

This project was made to represent the working class in a way that avoids mockery and shame. The flat blocks, a setting which is stigmatised and neglected turned into an art piece which hopefully will make people proud of their roots.

Working collaboratively has been a valuable experience throughout my third year with my FMP and with co-creating Backyard Zine which has allowed us to explore different mediums, collaborating through work and style and creating new and different art.

Images of 2 year old Oona, being comforted by her aunt with her family around her. Stating, Family is Everything to Oona. She knows when she is tired or upset she has a shoulder to lie on as her granny will be there to comfort her. In these moments nothing else matters.

I am glad that during University I have been able to find my passion for Art Direction and have developed this through all my projects at university which allowed me to create my own personal style and create a voice for myself which I hope to continue in industry.

Images of adolescent Sylvia in her room. Stating. Sylvia loves expressing herself through her hair, Clothes and her room. She spends time here listening to much from Olivia Rodrigo in her headphones to dancing around with her friends to BTS. In these moments nothing else matters.
Images of Ellie and her boyfriend Steven. Stating; Ellie had moved out of home and now provides for herself. She spends her time counting down the days until she can see her long distance boyfriend again. They love to cook for each other and eat over a new show or film. In these moments nothing else matters.
