I started making my degree film >blk (more than Black) last year and further developed it earlier into this transcendent year.
>blk is a short, poetic documentary about the underrepresented voices and identities of 3 Black creatives – unpacking their realities in the Creative Industry.
It is a medley of my frustrations, Black frustrations, our artistry, our voice ā whitewashed, until itās no longer ours or ignored when it is. It is affirmation of our passionate love for our art, curated despite the discrimination and oppression of the industry.
Through my time at NUA and as a Black filmmaker constantly in a white room, I struggled to make reflections of myself in my work because it often compromised the wants, of the overwhelming majority ā who didnāt understand my need to make a film like this: honest and ours.
As a Filmmaker, I want to continue to work on content that has a fresh take on explorative modernism ā to contribute to the enriching social and cultural media that works to evolve perspectives.
