Ash Sessions

BA (Hons) Photography

Ash's face and shoulders are in frame, against a white draped sheet background. He is resting his head on his shoulder and looking away from the camera.

My practice is directly inspired by my experiences as a queer trans person. I aim to capture the lives, personalities, and experiences of LGBTQ+ people, including my own, through still life and portraiture. This is a predominant feature in my work, alongside documenting themes like mental illness, especially during the pandemic.

A still life photograph featuring the top of a bleached animal skull in front of a bunch of vibrant yellow dandelions. The backdrop is burgundy and gold.

My project ‘Sense of Self’ is based around my personal self-discovery and exploration. It is incredibly important to me to document the queer experience from a place of compassion and understanding, and I aim to give more of a voice to those who feel less seen or recognised.

Ash is against a burgundy and gold background, looking up towards a light source. He is wearing a nostril, septum and lip piercing, and a silver and red heart earring.
