‘FLORENCE’ is a short film that showcases two aspects of film-making that I have a passion for. Firstly, I love making clothes and enjoy how clothing can be utilised to tell a story. Secondly, drawing on real-life; in this instance, a young woman’s journey during COVID. The film raises awareness that, when faced with adversity, people often have answers within themselves.
The film reflects how a person’s emotions, sense of safety and resilience can be called upon at difficult times. Sometimes solutions are found in our subconscious, and something can trigger our memory. In this case, watching family films triggers Florence’s childhood memories of when she faced feelings of insecurity. Florence found her own creative solution at the time and realised that she could use this same strategy again. ‘FLORENCE’ shows how reconnecting with my childhood reminded me of the pleasure I get from being creative.
