Bethan Jones

BA (Hons) Illustration

A page from a zine about art therapy by Bethan Jones, describing how one can make art without needing to be 'good' at it, featuring a human character and apple instructor

Art has been one of the most formative aspects of my life. Even at an early age, I was always drawing or writing something, using art as both a safe space and a way for me to understand the world better. Today, I sometimes still feel like that little kid scribbling their thoughts in a notebook.

Zines and comics are my favourite form to work with because I have quite a loose, natural way of working, and zines embrace that. Illustrating for children also comes naturally to me because I like my work to be humorous, fun, and colourful. Even when I’m making work for adults, I think I’m still trying to appeal to that inner child inside all of us. I don’t like my work to feel childish in a patronising way. I believe the best children’s illustrators use their natural voice rather than trying to fit some idea of what children want.

In summary, I will work with any project that’s handed my way, and I will always have fun!
