Callum Broomhead
BA (Hons) Photography
Combining technical and conceptual theory found often in film and television, I create imagery that is enhanced with “filmic” and narrative-based themes, attempting to blur the lines between photography and cinematography.
My current project investigates what elements are required to convey an image as something audiences may recognise as ‘cinematic’ and has been done so through directing my practice towards the creation of ‘fictional stills’, while also gathering unique and impactful work as a unit stills practitioner on graduate film sets.
Focused research into cinematographers such as Roger Deakins, Robert Elswit and Dimitri Basil has allowed me to make strides in the development of my ‘Moving Image’ skills and knowledge, which has ultimately further amplified the stills work, while coinciding with additional interests in filmmaking and how I approach this and future investigations surrounding the industry.
