Camille Bakal

BA (Hons) Illustration

BA Illustration work by Camille Bakal showing a monotone black and white pencil sketch of a faerie and a mermaid gossiping surrounded by nature.

Throughout my degree, I had the opportunity to develop my existing skills and expand my skill set. I explored processes such as printmaking, publishing, digital art and storytelling. As I continued to illustrate, I was able to find my technique and process. I find that I am drawn more to digital art despite coming from a traditional art background.

I definitely explored my storytelling skills the most, sometimes by just making sequential pieces with a consistent aesthetic to string them together. Having to design characters and build a universe around them significantly impacted my perspective on comic books, manga and the publishing industry.

During the past year, I was able to communicate with several illustrators who create sequential illustrations and have published work, and they gave me feedback which I was able to bring into my practice. They gave me a lot of inspiration and a goal to work towards.
