Charlotte Matless

BA (Hons) Fashion

BA Fashion Design by Lottie Matless. romanticising fetish fashion through womenswear exploration. focusing on the musical, Moulin Rouge and fabric development

I am a womenswear designer focusing on exploration of the female form.
With my final major project, ‘A SINNER’S ADVOCATE’, I have been exploring with contrasting themes of Fetish fashion and the 2001 romantic drama, Moulin Rouge.
Through research and heavy exploration, I identified that both themes have huge similarities that benefited throughout my concept. Both including a seductive, alluring tone.

Exploring with fabrics, trims and detailing. All to further enhance my final collection to relate broader with my concept and design approach.

I created a story, where the wearer of my garments is a seductive female dominatrix, alluring her audience through the powerful strides she takes.
Throughout this project, I have been focusing on fabrics, trims and detailing to further highlight my concept and my approach within my target market.
Exploring with chains, beading and colour has really helped enhance my conceptual evidence with fetish fashion, which links into the costume and set design of Moulin Rouge.

Tech drawings for outfits
The Satine Bodysuit is my second garment I introduced within A Sinners Advocate. Containing fabric development exploring with body manipulation through texture and style lines. Semi-transparent cups were also introduced to benefit the element of fetish fashion, as well as chain detailing to enhance the idea of female dominatrix.
A Sinners Leather Coat is the main action piece throughout my final lineup of my final major project, this outfit also includes hot pants and a raw edge, cut out leather top. Each item has had lengthy thought processes involved to illuminate my concept perfectly, focusing on both themes. This outfit includes top stitch details, metal hardware with chains and trims, detachable hand cut organza skirt, beading and lace up detailing.
