My work has always been very personal touching on the theme of identity, specifically heritage and sexuality. Sexuality is a topic that for some people is difficult to talk about. After having many conversations with members of the LGBTQ+ community I have been able to create paintings that help to start a conversation on the topic or at least communicate using a visual language.
Using oil paint as a preferred medium I experiment with how I want the viewer to feel. Taking inspiration from Kehinde Wiley, the paintings combine bold colour choices with repeated patterns that act as a backdrop for the figure.
It also plays with different aspects of the queer community, like makeup, clothing, symbolism etc., because the LGBTQ+ community is bold, colourful and beautiful. With my work I hope to continue to create and hopefully keep these conversations going on a larger platform.
