Elise Jenkins

BA (Hons) Design for Publishing

BA Design for Publishing work by Elise Jenkins showing a chapbook created using Elizabeth Loftus’ TED Talk. Experimenting with typography and paper stock to reflect the themes of memory loss, distortion and manipulation.
NUA Award Winner

I am a graphic designer who specialises in editorial design. I have an appreciation for typography and the physical, tactile elements of design. During my course, I gained skills such as typesetting, bookbinding, art direction, and image manipulation. I have excellent software skills in a variety of programs, including the Adobe Creative Cloud.

Completing my degree under varying lockdown restrictions has taught me how to adapt, communicate and respond to feedback through online platforms. I would like to join a studio where I can collaborate with other people on a range of projects, but I am most interested in designing page layouts for books and magazines.

Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation

BA Design for Publishing work by Elise Jenkins showing s series of editorial spreads which utilize default fonts, striking photography by Juno Calypso and overlapping textures to create playful page layouts.
BA Design for Publishing work by Elise Jenkins showing a re-design of the book Flatland by Edwin A. Abbott experimenting with format and typography because of chapters that reference the world ‘Lineland’. The style for 'Lineland' is typographic. The characters of the fonts used are formed using small straight lines which references the world nicely.
BA Design for Publishing work by Elise Jenkins showing spreads created for the SPD Student Outreach competition. The design is clean and showcases the work of Florist Hattie Molloy. Rules are used under small images to create an abstract flower design. The display font is bold and playful which compliments Hattie’s personal style.
BA Design for Publishing work by Elise Jenkins showing a front cover that features an image of a woman’s neck by Man Ray with the title embossed in a gothic serif. The quote on the back cover follows this shape.
