BA (Hons) Interior Design
I am passionate about the sustainable impact of design and how our built environments can have a positive effect on people. This passion was cultivated by my research into the demolition of post-war architecture and my final project that focuses on the sensitive restoration of St Peter’s, a ruinous 1960s Catholic Seminary that is part of the 140-acre Kilmahew Estate. My design proposal is to redevelop this estate into Kilmahew Arts Centre, a contemporary arts space.
The centre will encourage more involvement with the arts and the surrounding natural landscape through a biophilic design led renovation. A gallery, café and shop, open to the public, will bring tourism, and to stimulate engagement from schools it will have an active learning program. The building will also provide space to accommodate artist residents who will use the centre as an artistic retreat and create artwork for the on-site gallery. This renovation will positively affect the community and encourage creativity.
