I identify with the prognosis of the four components of the mind: the unconscious, preconscious, conscious and the ego. I walk in an existence with continuous conflicting identities that represent an illusionary ‘self’ within my conscious realm. I explore the concept of the mother and the projection of anxieties depicted in the womb, portraying a wounded child leading to an unfamiliar emotional response as an adult. I analyse the juxtaposition of emotion and feeling through sensory perception and the engagement of the dualistic movement between body and mind and the oppressed nervous system.
My practice is persuaded by skin, the organic substance that emerges the internal and external space, the fabric we use in a form of drapery to seduce the ego. I portray this as the ‘skin ego’, the expressive uncanny persona. I seek my authentic ‘self’ through my work to unveil the obscure embodiment beneath the skin.
