BA (Hons) Illustration
Ellie Tolputt
I am a multidisciplinary illustrator with a passion for storytelling and the relationship between language and image, and how this can influence peopleâs emotions and decisions surrounding world issues. My work aims to educate and enlighten audiences of various ages about life in fun and inventive ways. I specialise in childrenâs fiction and editorial illustration, and use gesture, character and humour mixed with the interesting textures of collage to engage viewers in my work.
My children’s book ‘How to Be a Starâ explores themes of identity and comparing oneself to others. The story was inspired by my dissertation research into education and how children are increasingly pressured to be âextraordinaryâ and succeed at a young age, rather than being allowed time to discover themselves. The artwork is a reflection of my passion for early 20th century theatre, cabaret and film.
