Evie Wiggins

BA (Hons) Photography

BA Photography work by Evie Wiggins showing two photos side by side. One is a closeup of hand holding a pocket watch. The other photo depicts a person in a chair, lying on the ground with their back against the ground, holding the pocket watch in their hand.

I photograph a variety of subject matter, such as portraits, fashion and still life. Cinema is a big influence on my work and I aim to create a similar feel within my own photos, whilst considering the deeper meaning and narratives that it may entail.

My current practice is a project titled ‘Embracing Emotions’. We can’t control our emotions, or how we feel, but we can choose what actions to take when such emotions arise. We can numb ourselves out of fear, we can let them over-rule us to the point of no control, or we can acknowledge and accept them.

My project narrates my personal experience through this, showing the unhealthy cycle myself and many others get into. I hope to communicate that although our emotions can be overwhelming and often unwanted, once we find comfort in the uncomfortable, we effectively set ourselves free. Embrace them, before they embrace you.
