George Irwin

BA (Hons) Film and Moving Image Production

Film and Moving Images Production work by George Irwin showing a psychological drama. The film explores a character's struggle with her troubled cognition.

Hello, my name is George Irwin, the writer, director and editor of She Hears Crying. I have always been drawn to experimental, psychological and challenging cinema, taking audiences through a journey that is both unique and obscure. To partner with this, mental health in its many forms has increasingly become something I feel I need to express through my work, therefore I knew this piece (She Hears Crying) had to be grounded in truth, touching on the surreal. My goal was to create an emotional and psychological drama, hyper focused on a single character’s subjective experience with their own cognition.

I wanted to explore one’s method of distracting themselves from their troubled mind, settling on the pursuit of noise to drown out trauma. Ultimately, I have explored a troubled cognition through the blending of realism with surrealism, taking audiences directly into the mind of the protagonist through experimental sound design and a powerful performance.
