BA (Hons) Illustration
I combine fun, documentational watercolour illustrations with bold, digital backgrounds to create modern compositions suitable for a variety of purposes. For this project I explored how children personify objects, usually soft toys, to bring them comfort; developed in response to my Research Report on how difficult subjects, such as grief, are tackled in children’s picture books.
I have designed a 32 page picture book aimed at 5-7 year olds which follows the story of Sophie and her best friend, Rabbit, as they lose each other in the excitement of Toyland. I used Adobe Photoshop and InDesign to put the book together; programmes I learnt independently. Outside of this unit, I have also experimented with glass making with Langham Glass and metalwork for the Broads Authority, as I love creating physical pieces as much as painting and design.
