BA (Hons) Fine Art
Hannah Duffew
Reflecting upon the responsibility that artists hold within society, artist Hannah Duffew prioritises organising social engagement projects, aimed at educating the public and encouraging more ecologically minded attitudes. With senior focus given to community and environmentalism, the nature of her interdisciplinary work has been heavily research based, integrating sociology, science, history and culture to create an informed background to her projects. With this research, she has devised conceptual installations demonstrating the, sometimes unacknowledged, complexities of the climate crisis. These installations have manifested in a variety of forms and utilised a multitude of medium analysing similar themes. The artist has since moved toward a practise prioritising academic writing focused on the relationships between, and impacts of, various social and scientific influences in the current environmental crisis. The integration of creative non-fiction and the creative archive has allowed the flexibility the artist needed to assimilate scholarly thinking into their artistic practise.
