BA (Hons) Illustration
My creative process derives from stories, people and places. This project intends to factually illustrate the tale of Jim Ede and his creation of Kettle’s Yard through research I undertook reading articles and listening to stories. I create printed matters all born from manual processes, making playful and decorative pieces that are rooted in narrative. Favouring the tactility of working by hand; to create a sense of playfulness and warmth. The Kettle’s Yard house was originally conceived with students in mind, and after undertaking research showing attendance in museums and galleries is declining particularly in young people, I aimed to engage an audience through illustrating Kettle’s Yard.
Working on small commissions with local Norwich people has enabled me to obtain an understanding of my audience, communication, and the legalities too. I have a strong attention to detail which I think is proven in this project. Each of these skills have evolved during my time as a student will help me become a successful freelancer. I have found confidence in the work I create and have nurtured over time a style I am proud of.
