Imogen Downs
BA (Hons) Fine Art
My work is wide ranging and constantly evolving in medium and subject. The closely followed themes of my practice are concepts relating to home such as hiraeth and the maudlin meaning of home itself. Using paint, I create landscapes telling of the natural history the site holds, choosing my locations carefully, working with the landscape and the story to add antiquity – a common sentiment in my practice.
Similarly, I explore expressive narratives through moving image, soundscapes and photographic documentation, both film and digital. The art of digital manipulation and curation fascinates me and is a motif in my work; I have published magazines, incorporating a collaborative side to my work, they all feature an array of work by myself and others, methodically exploring taboo topics with no hesitation.
The vulnerability of my work allows it to translate emotions that catalyse a sentient reaction; sharing in an honest and frank perspective on the everyday, the wistful and the nostalgic.
