Jack James Oakes

BA (Hons) Games Art and Design

Concept artwork by Jack Oakes: An older man with glasses and a crossbow looks at the viewer with a kind of smug expression.

I’ve loved and played games since about the age of 4 so it seemed only natural to make a career out of it. I love making things which is how I got into making art. I love any creative process really, my favourite games are from the souls series, Santa Monica Studios’ new rendition of God of war and Black and white, I’ve done a games development course in college and a graphic design course which gave me a head start on learning software like photoshop before university where I took games art and design specialising in concept art.

I’ve been running DND campaigns with my friends for a while which I believe has improved my creative writing skills and made me much better at conceptualising ideas as my friends will often ask me to create artwork from their ideas. I also like reading books my favourite writer is Terry Pratchett, his style of comedy and playful writing is brilliant, I’m looking for remote work as a concept artist but would love to connect with anyone from the industry.
