James Sabbagh

BA (Hons) Film and Moving Image Production

A black and white animated still from No Reprieve featuring my rotoscoped acting to create an animated look for the character.

Hello, I’m James and I don’t know what I want to do after I leave NUA, but I’m excited. After spending my final year producing five films, I understand that every job requires a level of creativity (in the film industry and outside it) and I intend to utilise these new creative approaches in whichever projects call for them. I’ll always be creative and we’ll see how that’s embodied in whatever career path I pursue, but studying at NUA has definitely helped my work style flourish.

One of my key lessons this year has been to trust others. Being responsible as a producer for many moving elements of production, I used to be more apprehensive about sharing my responsibilities with others – even if they were willing to help. However, sometimes it’s important to remember you’re human and every human needs rest. And there are other humans, who will happily do a job well, and have more than enough rest, so I shouldn’t feel ashamed to share my load. I’m proud of what we’ve made.

A showreel of six projects demonstrating my film production work.
