Jamie Wood

BA (Hons) Games Art and Design

Games Art and Design work by Jamie Wood showing a mock screenshot of a battle between the player character and a monstrous enemy

When I started at NUA, I had very limited digital art experience, having come from a more traditional background. Over the last three years I have significantly developed my skills in Photoshop while being introduced to new programs such as Blender and zBrush. I use a combination of traditional and digital skills to approach concept art in a unique way, with keen attention to design and detail.

I always try to think outside the box and interpret briefs in my own way, looking to bring something new every time both in terms of design and skills to learn. I was particularly happy with my final project, which sought to take a very unorthodox setting in terms of game locations and apply traditional gameplay to it.

I enjoy how designing for games makes you think — about the creatures, characters, and environments you are creating — as considering how the audience will receive them makes designs more purposeful.
