Jo Thomasina

BA (Hons) Fine Art

Graduate Fine Art work by Jo Thomasina, showing a 3D abstract tree, 30mm rusty steel pipes, welded together using a Mig Welder. Pipes of varied lengths and sizes

I could be considered to be an artist who is quite often taken with a spontaneous modernist approach to my making, using an amalgamation of mixed mediums and materials of variable media and colour, including where possible found and recycled objects. Creating in this way means there are no limitations to my active mind‚ ambitious imagination, with my own environmental surroundings creating life experiences.

Graduate Fine Art work by Jo Thomasina, Sculpture, a two person rock seat, a viewer interaction installation. MDF wood, polystyrene foam, scrim, plaster, pigment, PVA glue, acrylic paints.

I am driven in a non-grammatical way by the diversity of positive and negative social causes that are generally provoked by human emotions. Street and community art excite me, as I enjoy the possibilities of highlighting issues that stir up curiosity in the community and beyond, causing an abundance of interesting debate and a deeper level of conversation. I am doing this when creating work that is expressive, thought-provokingly cryptic or socially engaging, which can also be challenging, often political, but most of all, accessible.
