Joshua Marven

BA (Hons) Photography

BA Photography work by Joshua Marven showing an exploration into androgyny. Portrait of a man wearing an unbuttoned shirt looking into the sun.

My approach to portraiture and fashion photography is influenced by contemporary and upcoming political trends. I frequently find that modern political debates are evolved through taboos, subjects that are too often denied spotlight in fear of insult. For this reason, my recent projects engage with flamboyancy, documenting a representation of these sub-cultures. Visually, my use of tone in a subdued colour or monochromatic manner demonstrates the attitude and a celebratory narrative associated with androgyny and genderless styling. These visual directions evoke a positive outlook of those breaking social norms.
