For me, the visual narrative and capturing of emotion and performance are the most important aspects of cinematography. I tend to shoot in a minimalistic style in order for the story to flesh out in front of our eyes from an observational point of view. I find that with the type of writing that I like to work with (drama, psychological thriller, horror etc) that this method is extremely effective in absorbing the audience and enhancing their experiences. When filming The Undomesticated by James Silk Tyler and Wheels by Wendy MacKinnon, I approached them both with similar attitudes to filming and I feel that it allowed me to get the absolute best out of both the stories, the environment and the actors performances.
