Louise Purden

BA (Hons) Illustration

Illustration work by Louise Purden showing a colourful illustration of a female doing a yoga pose. Hand drawn with crayon pencils, then digitally reworked.

There is an underlining social purpose to my work, particularly in the context of mental health – with a developing interest in how illustration can bring people together. I am fascinated in understanding how visual imagery can be used to help break down and explain complicated information and emotions, while also making content fun and engaging.

My illustration practice explores the relationship between pattern, colour and texture. Mixing playful hand drawn rather tactile processes, with more refined precise digital ones. I love creating organic rough surfaces, through mark making and collage materials; juxtaposed with clean crisp forms and shapes that digital software can offer me.

Illustration work by Louise Purden showing two playful illustrations made up of collage material and digital mark making. Both exploring the power we can have over our own mental health.
Illustration work by Louise Purden showing impactful page spread designs of an anti-anxiety booklet. Powerful bold vintage collage material mixed with pops of red, black and purple digital marks.
