Marna Alberts
BA (Hons) Textile Design
I am a versatile textile designer, specialising in surface pattern design. I work in a variety of aesthetics and enjoy adapting my drawing style to suit specific projects, processes, designs, and contexts. I often try new techniques and enjoy combining traditional hand-drawn pieces with digital skills.
My time at NUA has allowed me to explore my own practice, but also provided me with opportunities to collaborate with talented individuals and gain valuable insight into the textile industry. Live industry briefs, internships, and competitions have allowed me to demonstrate my organizational and time management skills. Working to a strict brief and deadline successfully allowed me to develop soft skills for future practice.
I personally find that the best patterns and textiles always tell a story. Therefore, my work often explores themes relating to the ideological idea of ‘self-identity’, ethnic and cultural origins of geometric pattern and designs.
