Melina Wilde’s work brings to the forefront the insight that nonsense can bring. She aspires to play the part of the licensed fool, by communicating through self-serious streams of consciousness, automatic drawing and the vandalism of individuals’ flesh. The immediacy of such practices reveals the fears, questions and obtrusive thoughts which, though idiosyncratic in nature, can reveal basal ties that bind us to our fellow man.
In her latest video work, she projects her personal imagery onto her subjects, through body painting, and then onto the virtual environment, through additional animations. By combining a fluid method and one which can only be put in place in post-production allows for intuition to flourish, as well as leaving space for introspection by its creator. The internal visual world of the artist’s perception is violently made external through marked entities and surroundings, and displayed as a film opened to scrutiny by its peers.
