Molly Brown

BA (Hons) Textile Design

Surface pattern designs by BA Textile Designer Molly Jean, showing three colourful and illustrative woodland themed patterns printed onto linen.
NUA Award Winner

Throughout my degree, I have found my niche within surface pattern design by combining creative processes – developing colourful and illustrative designs for pattern and print. I enjoy working to briefs and with experience of meeting deadlines, I believe that I am an organised and a hard-working person. My main influences come from nature and our environmental surroundings, through this I explore handcrafted techniques such as cut paper and printmaking which is complimented by my strong Photoshop skills.

A snapshot of BA Textile Designer Molly Jean’s sketchbook. Showing a colourful arrangement of cut paper coastal inspired shapes, influenced by patchwork quilts.

My course has pushed me to express my creative abilities, exploring new materials as well as pushing boundaries when it comes to testing design applications and considering sustainability. I am interested in interior and fashion design contexts and love designing print for stationery and gift wrap. With a good understanding of consumer audiences and experience in creating work for a variety of target markets, I have especially enjoyed designing illustrative prints for children.
