I was interested in my third-year project being a catalyst for change in Hull. The Fruit Market area, where my project is located, had seen some regeneration but this had slowed and was limited to a single street. I used Hull’s relationship to music as a starting point and considered how the journey of a musician could be used as a model to provide opportunities in music as both a hobby and a business for the people of Hull. This led to the idea of the project being based around a journey of “Learn. Play. Record.”
The site is surrounded by existing buildings, and as it was important to me that the project appeared to belong to the fabric of Hull, I chose to use ArchiCAD as the software allowed me to create a detailed site model to fully understand the existing context. The use of existing context is a big part of my design process and is something that I want to develop in the future.
