Mya Fairweather
BA (Hons) Photography
I am a Documentary Photographer that explores the relationship between people and places. Exploring locations that have high significance to past and present events that some people may be completely unaware of. I focus on using colour grading in a way to desaturate the images, allowing the audience to detach from their own personal experiences with the locations that I explore in a different context, removing any nostalgia that may surround it.
I aim to stylise the images in a way that shows the ordinary in the extraordinary, educating audiences through a documentary narrative of events. I draw attention to the presence and traces of human life, with the subject matter mundane but approaching the sublime. This project focuses on the concept of people in places, with the main theme of my work surrounding ‘The Missing’, photographing the scene of crime where a victim was last seen, or the location last related to the missing person.
