BA (Hons) Textile Design
I am graduating from Norwich University of the Arts with a degree in Textile Design, during which I have become intrigued by the potential of the shaft loom as a tool for making textile art. The shaft loom has limits, but these limits stretch the weavers inventiveness, making it necessary to dig deeper into ideas and techniques and to cut out the nonessential; the pace and rhythm of a craft like weaving are useful tools for this deep reflection and analysis.
My course has offered me the space in which to explore this, together with the community and continuity that I have needed to realize my potential. My work for this year has been inspired by a year of living on the Suffolk coast. I have tried to capture the changing moods and seasons of this beautiful space with three distinct weave projects: Autumn, Winter and Summer.
