Sophie Carder

BA (Hons) Fashion

BA Fashion final outfit by Sophie Vivien comprising of colourful crocheted pieces, including re-used pieces of ‘single-use’ plastics that have been turned into yarn.

My graduate project is called Zooxanthellae, which showcases human’s effect on coral reefs through pollution, expressed through crochet and textiles, involving the use of second hand “single-use” materials. This subject matter is one that I feel is especially important, as climate change poses a large threat to our wildlife and surroundings. I am a hard-working and driven individual and work well as part of a team or independently.

I have worked in multiple roles since my first job at the age of 16 and have also undertaken volunteering roles and unpaid work experience, often embarking on more than 1 role at a time, which demonstrates my positive attitude towards employment and learning new things. Throughout my final year at university, I have improved on my ability to be able to work independently and solve problems that are thrown my way. I have learnt to overcome personal and practical struggles in order to thrive and to produce work that is to the best of my abilities.
