Taking inspiration from my family history, my collection ‘Oh Happy Days’ embodies romanticism, inspired by the fairy-tale story of my grandparents during the 1950’s. A chaos of pastel nuanced colours, luxurious materials and effortless shapes create a link to the 1950’s and the history surrounding it. Applique and the fabrication of flowers link to my nans wedding bouquet and her role of making wedding flowers in the past. This collection aims to create the same whimsical and playfully quaint ideology of a storybook.
The tailoring project in second year, has really influenced my career direction as it is something that I have found a passion in and have allowed it to create a collection. I began making handmade flowers for this collection based my nan and her bridal flowers alongside her job. In an answer to the question ‘What was your favourite job?’ , she responded… My favourite job was doing bridal flowers and arrangements, it started as a hobby and progressed from there.
