Sophie Leven

BA (Hons) Illustration

Pattern design by Sophie Leven of seven endangered bird and insect species. Digital illustrations consist of dark blue linework on a sage green background.

My passion for design has evolved throughout my BA Degree in Illustration, where I have developed a keen eye for detail and understanding of colour, composition and balance particularly in surface pattern design. I have honed my ability and comprehension of illustration for surface design, through projects such as creating and selling cushion covers for The Sainsbury Centre. This offered valuable industry insights into homeware design and production.

Pattern design by Sophie Leven of eleven endangered sea animal species. Digital illustrations consist of dark blue linework combined with a spectrum of blue block colour, on a beige background.

Through my final degree project, I created three pattern collections of endangered species for wallpapers, homeware and textiles. I offer a meaningful way to inspire support for conservation efforts and emphasise the beauty and uniqueness of these species. To craft my surface designs, I combine analogue illustration techniques with digital colour and composition methods in Adobe Creative Suite. I enjoy working in teams and look forward to collaborating with other creative people in industry to develop ideas, skills and projects.
