I am a painter who works with mixed media and collage. My work is an individual’s view and experience of society, gender, shame and power. I look for the unintended and accidental while painting and making, moving between the figurative and abstract to describe a pictorial narrative. In the belief that none of us are binary but in some way in-between ideals, I like to work with the glitch between material, form or colour.
The glitch can be what makes us stronger, individually or collectively. I remain open to the utilisation of all materials and the possibilities realised using new media. By freeing myself from the expectations of the purely representational, I can describe so much more. I wish for my work to not only say something of our human reality but to ask questions and open us up to new awareness. This means that I often embrace the open-endedness in outcomes.
