Tiffany Chapman’s work asks how virtual travel through Google Street View offers a chance to stay connected to places we’ve been or want to visit without physically moving. Through her work she asks if this view gives us an accurate depiction of real life or is a personal connection more accurate? Since collecting used postcards over the past two years, she has seen that they offer a fascinating insight into how perspectives of travel have changed over time.
Connecting the commercial to the personal and seeing how they have evolved through the past and present has been a key element to Chapman’s work, and has formed an archive of images that she presents physically through printed photography and screenprints. Her images evoke a sense of curiosity, humour and sometimes amazement at how our world has changed for the better or worse.
