Alice Collins

BA (Hons) Architecture

The Bodichon Centre is a family planning and abortion clinic for the community of Hastings, UK. The Centre features examination and consultation spaces as well as communal spaces for education and a children’s creche, to enable patients to leave their children during appointments.

Architectural Concept Art by Alice Collins showing an Isometric Drawing of the construction of a concept model.

In Modern day society, there still remains a stigma surrounding women and sex, discouraging women to be educated, experienced and safe during sex. The Bodichon Centre aids as a catalyst for this sociological problem by providing a safe and welcoming space for women to learn and be cared for.

The Design draws from the Bekleidung Theory; using clothing as a form of cladding. Exploring how skin drapes over the body, acting as our first layer of protection. The Centre features pre-cast concrete walls emulating a draped material (clothing) and exposed steel I beams to represent the body (skeleton).

An image of a building concept Collins' final outcomes from the series 'body', exploring the body through shape and colour through influences of vase shapes.
