Caitlin Pearman

BA (Hons) Illustration

A young girl approaching a magpie in flight. The image is made from collage, with text that reads: "Look out for the magpie's rainbow feathers! This feather colour is called iridescent."

My entire practice is underpinned by handmade processes, sequential design and education. Inspired by my fascination with the natural world and particularly ornithology, I aim for my illustration work to educate all audiences on these species and to incentivise engagement with the natural world.

An Egyptian goose flying across a painted landscape, with text that reads "Freedom!".

Working with the Broads Authority during my second year of university gave me an opportunity to create a unique booklet which aimed to teach children about introduced species. This allowed me to explore collaboration in a new way, where I enjoyed identifying relevant areas to their organisation which I felt my target audience may need more resources on.

A fluorescent pink and blue poster containing six images of jackdaws holding pebbles. The poster explains how these birds frequently collect and hide objects.

During my final year at university, I conducted a research report about the decline in people’s connections with nature, exploring how illustration can help to nurture this important connection. I have since used this research as a basis throughout my practice, ensuring that my work has an impact in all the ways I want it to.

A brightly coloured, high-energy image of three birds; using explosive shapes, lines and scribbles.
