Inner Labyrinth is a short video filmed along Norfolk’s coastline, at Brancaster, Heacham and Holme beaches. Under the jurisdiction of land and public arts, the film captures myself in the process of inscribing large-scale impressions onto the sand. Thinking of a bigger picture, labyrinths are inspired as a symbol of living and mapped out as a physical path alluding to our own individual journeys. This film makes its mark by considering our paramount relationship to the environment and how the impermanence of this work is conditioned by nature itself.
My approach for this site-specific project was to demonstrate the ephemeral nature of our ego upon the Earth, inviting interaction knowing that these efforts will ultimately be wiped away. This is a piece that makes us think about our internal and external relationship to the landscape.
