Joseph "Joey" Mark Rolph
BA (Hons) Photography
Throughout my BA I have built a love and appreciation for advertising, bold colour, and graphical art. I have combined these growing interests with my passion for comedy and I have created a body of work that combines them. “*Batteries not included.”, named for the common disclaimer in television advertisements, is an advertising inspired amalgamation of visual puns spreading smiles using wordplay and whimsical style.
I use photography as a tool to share my humour. When I create a piece, it is always my aim to add character to my subject and create whimsey within my image. I want each and every image to make someone giggle. I share a philosophy with Alexander Calder that is “Above all, art should be fun”.
I hope one day to work in advertising producing or managing creative campaigns. I would love to have one of my projects on a huge billboard in Times Square or Piccadilly Circus, though my main aim is to just make sure I can help create some smiles.
