Josie Blundell
BA (Hons) Fine Art
As a Fine Artist, my work is led by materiality and physicality aiming to form dialogues between art and material. I draw upon traditional practices, focusing on organic, tangible qualities of environments. My inspiration revolves around natural forms, cultural influence and abstraction. I use these to create work that will adapt and show the potential of the natural, elemental world. I enjoy creating new structures through binding techniques. While sculptural work is a primary interest, painting and drawing play important roles.
Merging art with publication through creative zines, colour exploration and textiles are my other interests. I use bilingual phrases, mirroring the hybrid, exploratory approach I have as a practitioner. For me, working through experimentation and finding new making processes is essential. ‘Electric Knit’ was recently published in Storehouse Magazine. I’ve showcased work at Cromer Artspace and volunteered and curated for Cadence exhibition in Shoreditch.
