Clare Gregory

BA (Hons) Fine Art

Artwork by Clare Gregory featuring three large, red pieces on canvas displaying close-ups of the abdomen. These are suspended from freestanding, aluminium frames.

Through my journey at university, I have been working on building a socially engaged practice to raise awareness and generate discussion around important topics. Working primarily in acrylic paint, my work explores my experiences with being chronically ill. My recent series ‘X Marks the Spot’, focuses on being a sufferer of endometriosis, and exploring my body after having my laparoscopy.

A closer photo of two of the pieces one showing a close crop of the abdomen and the belly button and the other showing an impression of the whole abdomen.

After months of experimentation and developing my outcomes, I was able to merge my two styles of process and figurative to convey my thoughts and feelings, giving a personal view of what it is like to suffer from endometriosis.

Another artwork by Clare Gregory showing the left side of the abdomen and the hip. There is a striking blue and yellow background.
Another piece in the series, a figurative painting displaying a whole view of the abdomen and the scars. A larger striking X is on the left of the abdomen.
A diptych piece featuring different angles of the abdomen, displayed against a white brick wall next to a window.
