Ema (Emma) Saxby

BA (Hons) Fine Art

Ema is a contemporary British artist living in Leeds. She enjoys creating installation and immersive work, hoping to bring her audience into her mind; translating a feeling or a cluster of memories through her work, using sound, light, touch and smell.

Ema primarily creates sculptural work, using varying mediums with a current interest in latex, papier mache and aluminium wire. Ema’s work continuously follows themes of the domestic, the uncanny, the [female] body, domestic ritual and most importantly, the home.

Her current project ‘The Body is The Home’ focuses on the juxtaposition of creating something slightly unsavoury in her mind, but in that process of physical creation, the very thing that was unsavoury becomes the safe haven she only dreamed of. The objects Ema creates in this project to translate her discomfort now hold her close and feel like family; they are the home she always wanted.
