Simon Maskell
BA (Hons) Illustration
Emerging into the third year out of the COVID-19 lockdowns, as an illustrator I took full advantage of the healthy studio environment and pushed my practice into a diverse range of outcomes with an emphasis on experimentation with process at my core.
I combine observational drawing skills with various traditional mediums (including mono and lino printing). I seek to use illustration as a method of exploring my passion for research, historical content and narrative story telling.
During my final year I became interested in scale and the contextualisation of my work, translating my outcomes into zines, pop-up sets, large scale banners and book illustrations.
Looking toward the future, I am seeking a career which allows me to marry together these different interests. I thrive inside collaborative environments, and I enjoy the challenge of seeing how illustration can be used to interpret new content in fun and interesting ways.
